Bronzeville Lakefront Intervention is built upon the unity between people and nature. With its sensible topography and unique centers, it brings fluidity and energy to the site, activating social zones across and encouraging the dialogue between the built and natural environments. Refusing to be limited to the constraints of a flat plane, the undulating hills reach across the Metra tracks toward the existing community and across Lake Shore Drive into the expansive waters of Lake Michigan, forming a safe passage from the city to the lake. Using a perforated surface and deep valleys, the relationship between those driving and the sweeping landscape remains intact.
What was once a flat plane and home of the McCormick Center truck marshalling yards, is now an interactive and dynamic carpet that glides across the site transforming the rough urban fabric to a greener palette. Bronzeville Lakefront Intervention utilizes these natural elements to influence the future character of the neighborhood while blurring the boundaries between the city and nature.
